Making trade

SUSTAINABLE
AND FAIR

For Everyone

Our Projects and our credentials

Relying on our strong connections within the global food sector, we help small farmer communities  and indigenous communities to develop and launch locally, sustainable (organic, fiar trade) produced products on international markets. We are committed to ensuring that a majority of the wealth generated by these products stays in the countries of origin.

Fair Business Alliance Ltd is a micro social enterprise, certified as an Organic Importer and Exporter by SOPA it is also a Fair Trade Enterprise certified by WFTO and it is a member of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum

Fair pay is also important within our operation remit and is why we are accredited as a Living Wage Employer

Because we care about our only planet and because we believe that every action taken by all of us, has an effect on how we protect our plante today and for tomorrow, is that Fair Business Alliance has committed to be a Net Zero business by 2035, this is 15 years before the UK governments plans and 10 years before the Scottish government commitment.

Organic & Fair Trade Brazil Nuts

Amazon nut tree, COINACAPA, Bolivia©Eduardo Martino

We facilitate direct trade relationships between local Brazil nut producer organisations in the Amazon rainforest of Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, and bulk purchasers in Europe and Asia. We set up the initial contact, support the development of bilingual contracts and monitor the trade relationship, ensuring local producers are treated fairly.

We also are constant looking into the needs of the producer organisations, their communities and environment, so we can identify and work with them the ways to fulfil them.

Fair Business Alliance Ltd is a partner at “Sustain Peru” project together with ETH Zurich University and Cifor Peru. Sustain, has the following aim; To research that contributes to a global sustainable food system.

Sustain focus on the Madre de Dios region of Peru, which contains 26,000 square Km of the most biologically diverse, carbon dense, Brazil nut-rich forest in South America.

Through these endeavours we will provide a novel and powerful contribution to the global sustainable food system.

Amazonian Vanilla in Ecuador

Fair Business has been the leading partner at the Innovate UK project “Amazonian vanilla market creation as an enabler of sustainable development in rural Ecuador” in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and Fundación Aliados in Ecuador. We have been assessing the market potential of vanilla cultivation by indigenous communities in Amazonian Ecuador. We have identified the properties of new vanillas and the cultivation methods used by the communities. In the next phase of the project we are hoping to generate new sources of income, strengthen gender equality and protect the environment, by developing the project further, including finding potential business partners interested in developing this supply chain, in an ethical and sustainable way.

Fair Trade Plantain Crisps

Plantain Project Fair Business Alliance

We helped 750 families in Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador, with introducing the first ever fairtrade certified plantain crips Zamora Plantain Crisps into the UK in 2012.  Although we assisted in product design and market research, farmers retained full ownership over the product.

This project ended after the last earthquake that affected Ecuador.
